Just got home from the show. Man! What a show. There was so much going down at the Red Fez, to say it was fun would not be dong the night justice.
Every Saturday night starts a little on the slow side because all the people have not gotten to their final destinations yet and are either fighting traffic or waiting on those who are. This Saturday night was great right from the beginning. We had people reserving tables, and by the time we went on, we had all the tables taken so standing room only left. With the help of J.J. and Kyle we sat down and rearranged the set list to bring out all of the songs full potential. Sometimes getting the set list right seems like it could be a deal breaker or maker. I believe that this new setlist is a great setlist. It keeps an energy going and creates cohesiveness between the songs. The crowd became thicker and thicker by the song and booties started to shake everywhere. I could see the crowd responding. Even though I play these songs over and over again, the only reason I can do that and still find something new in them is because of the crowd. When the crowd feels it, I feel it. If I feel it thr crowd feels it. It's why I can't just sing anybody's song and a huge reason I don't do a lot of covers. I do covers of songs that invoke feeling or a mood in me. I cover two Coldplay songs - "Don't Panic" and "Swallowed In The Sea" from their new X&Y album. There is a relationship between the band and the crowd. Our job is to not only entertain but capture something in you. When we do that, we get a response from you. It's like a game, a silent conversation carried through music. Once we connect with you, we feed off your energy and then you feed off of our energy and it becomes a cyclical engine of boundless possibilities. It's the stuff that makes bands smash guitars and what-not. Thanks for tonight, I owe it to the people who come out to see us. |
